For decades, strategy treated meaning as background infrastructure.

Executives focused on margins, supply chains, market share, pricing power, category expansion, and distribution efficiency. Meaning was assumed to follow structure. If the economics worked, the story could be adjusted around it. McKinsey matrices, BCG portfolios, and value-chain frameworks rose because they explained how companies create and defend economic advantage.

That assumption is breaking.
